Besides total immersion, how else can I learn/practice a new language?
I’ve heard so much praise about Rosetta Stone…but have also read a LOT of bad reviews too. Have you used it? Does it work? I’m specifically looking to refresh my french and learn italian.
I have a lot of French and Italian friends, but they speak English with me. Even if we try French/Italian for a little bit, we always revert to English within 5min. It’s so frustrating, because I help them with English. So learning from them is fruitless…I need alternative ways of learning. Software/websites/podcasts…anything that you’ve tried and tested.
Thanks!!

@Illusionist…you just gave me an interesting idea- learning it reverse. What “issues” are you referring to?
read books, even childrens’ stuff, watch movies with good subtitles, talk with native speakers, take classes, listen to the radio. Just make sure the material is of the right level and interesting/funny to you.
You can also save some time by learning some Esperanto first, as weird as it sounds… That way you get accustomed to a good deal of words, pronunciation and structure of the languages without getting distracted by irregular verbs or grammatical gender
